Reebok

Sponsored project at SCAD

ROLE

I focused more on the research, ideation stage and prototyping and got more help in the final product manufacturing as my sewing skills were not the best for some concepts. I was assigned to manager of my team but we all collaborated and blended into everything pretty smoothly.

DESIGN TEAM

We were 16 designers. Among us, there were sustainability, accessory, fashion and industrial designers. We were divided into 4 teams of 4 and each team was to come up with a line of products.

PROJECT SCOPE

The goal delivered by Reebok was to find ways in which we could transform Reebok's waste material into products. They provided us with a variety of different fabrics they use which we used in our final products. We had 10 weeks to deliver the final products.

AUDIENCE

Reebok main target usually aim towards sports that are not team based and have put a lot of attention towards Crossfit and related fitness activities.

RESEARCH AND IDEATION

We began by researching the brand and understanding who we were designing for to later on start jumping into ideation. Each team brainstormed every idea they had as crazy as it was and narrowed down to the best ideas that fit the project's goal.

PRESENTATION AND FEEDBACK

We had access to communicate with professionals at Reebok and presented them with our progress so they could give us feedback and design direction on our product ideas. They will tell us if products were realistic and fit the brand.

PROTOTYPES AND HUMAN FACTORS

One major and key factor during this project was the wide use of fabrics we were not exposed to. Testing and coming up with product ideas of how to use these materials to our advantage was something that required a lot of hands on. Our products were also fitness related, meaning that we had to design knowing these products would most likely be worn before, during or after rigorous activity and so they had to accommodate for comfort.

FINAL PRODUCTS

The class came up with 9 product concepts and very high-end prototypes. My team came up with two main concepts.

THE BAG

One of a bag made completely of a square pattern of fabric that left no waste scraps when manufactured. This bag proved to be an innovation to the well known string-bag but more comfortable and fashionable to wear.

SCRAPS COLLECTION

We decided to use scraps of left over material from manufacturing to create accents in clothing. We delivered 5 manufactured samples of the concept with the idea that the user can ask when shopping for a product to be customized with random pieces of scraps that adds a sense of surprise when delivered and support to the environment but also makes every unit unique.

We chose the right fabrics that could be used for each product based on their performance.

PACKAGING

An approach to reducing the use of cardboard and applying fabric waste from manufacturing for an innovative packaging that also provides a bag for further use and less disposed material.

DELIVERY

We finally created an experience to present our final products to Reebok. We created artwork to promote and advertise each concept and presented in a dynamic and enteretaining way.
